Meeting Minutes 16/06/10

Big welcome to our new member Irene Davidson, who joined tonight!

Items outstanding from last meeting

Thanks to Paula Bunner for hosting the last meeting in my absence.

Malta

long-weekend – no significant interest from members so cancelled – We will

still accept proposals for foreign trips so please keep making suggestions!

Trearddur

dive run on 29 May – Approx three members attended and enjoyed the dive.

Next club dive is Trearddur on Sunday 27 June.

Dave Ward has very kindly offered to be the Dive Co-ordinator for the trip and will liaise with shop etc and pass weather info etc on to members who are attending.

High tide is 11.10hrs. Meet at the dive shop at Trearddur. I have two air cylinders (15l & 12l) I’m happy to lend interested members for the trip.

Just contact me on below e-mail or mobile and collect.

Forthcoming Dives/Events?

Will be the usual round of weekend dives at Caperwray and Delph. Anyone planning a dive, please drop me a line and I’ll fire out a Scubatext to all other registered members.

Some members are planning a dive this forthcoming weekend at

Capernwray. Please contact Paul Daley on 07796 534824 for info and meet times.

Our five-year club anniversary dive and BBQ is due in August

2010!

Traditionally held at the Delph, this year we have agreed a weekend in Trearddur on 21/22 August 2010. Lots of discussion held on subject of accommodation, campsite versus B&B etc. All interested parties are requested to pass on their names to me. My research has shown it may be much cheaper to accommodate just outside Trearddur. Anyway, let me have those names over next couple of weeks via e-mail. If you find reasonable accommodation, let me know and I’ll let everyone else know.

If Trearddur becomes weathered off, the fall-back will be the Delph for one day.

Summer Club Night Out – is now confirmed for Friday 27th August. Meet at the Rat & Parrot in town at 7.30. All members welcome, please bring your partners.

Proposed future dive trips

Members showed an interest in planning a trip to the following venues in 2010/2011. Please have a read of the links and let me know if you would be interested in attending at some stage. We can discuss dates once we have ascertained level of interest.

Birks Bridge, Lake District – Article in this month’s DIVE magazine. Looks an attractive venue and,as its relatively local, could be planned for weekend of 31st July. Let me know if you are interested.

Unterwasserpark-Betriebs GmbH, Near Munster, Germany – See attached info which outlines this interesting and unique venue.

Trip could be in September 2010 or planned for next year’s calendar. Have a look at the link and register your interest. Link to www.naturagart.co.uk and follow directions to Diving Park.

Stromness, Orkney (Scapa Flow) – See attached info. We will consider this for 2011 calendar.

Future Guest Speakers

North Wales SeaSearch – Liz Morris has contacted me with an offer to carry out a

presentation in early-October 2010. Sea Search is a national charity which trains local recreational divers how to undertake basic seabed surveys and record important information. I will arrange for Liz to attend our October

club meeting. Will make a note of attending members nearer the time. Sea Search Observer and Surveyor courses will start in April 2011

Irish Sea Marine Conservation – Thanks to Derek Nadin for providing us with this information. He attended a presentation by this group in Southport on 23rd April. They are keen to get in touch with diving groups and acquiring their opinions on future plans for North Wales waters. This could possibly impact on our future access to Irish Sea dive sites so we will keep an eye on the situation. Will possibly arrange them to attend a forthcoming meeting and clarify the situation for us. Emily from the group will be in touch with Rob to arrange but I’ll be monitoring developments.

Odds & Sods

Scubatext facility is working very well and we now have forty two members registered. If you want to join, please send your name and mobile number to 07515 058919. The facility is free.

Club Facebook website – This facility is developing well and has 173 members! All members are encouraged to have a look and get registered. Just read the guidance and familiarise yourself before use. The golden rule with Facebook is don’t submit anything you wouldn’t mind the rest of the world seeing! Thanks to Allen & Terry for photos from their recent trip! www.facebook.com

- search for Aquaventurers.

Club Newsletter – Not issued yet as I’ve received no pics or submissions yet.

Let me have your funny stories, pics, stuff for sale etc. I will then compile a

newsletter

Aquaventurers Website – Forum regularly used but rest looking a bit out of date. Facebook website seems to have taken away much of the focus. Paula and I will discuss the way ahead for the website. In the meantime, please keep using the forum.

Summary

We currently have approx 340 registered members in Aquaventurers club, of which approximately 25 regularly attend club meetings, participate in planning and generally contribute to club activities. In an attempt to rationalise the club and place the focus more on participating members, an e-mail will be sent to the entire membership this week. The e-mail will request they each reaffirm their continued interest in the club by simply replying to that e-mail within two weeks from issue. Those not responding within this timeframe will be assumed to be no longer interested in maintaining their link with the club. They will be removed from the membership and e-mail listing. Should such members wish to re-join at a later date they will be most welcome, if they commit to club activities.

Member Dave Ward has highlighted he is often available to dive mid-week, should anyone fancy a Caperwray or Delph run. You can contact Dave on wardsdiner@aol.com

Thanks to all who attended the meeting. It’s very reassuring to see a regular and healthy attendance at every meeting. Please consider all the above proposed

activities and let me have some feedback.

Next club meeting will be Wednesday 28 July 2010.

Best wishes and safe diving.
